Maryland SPCA’s Executive Director Aileen Gabbey released the following statement about the decision to give the Ed Block Courage Award to Vick today....
“The Maryland SPCA remains shocked and disappointed that Michael Vick will, indeed, receive an award for courage from the Ed Block Foundation after being nominated by his team. Mr. Vick does not deserve this honor. He has been convicted of horrific crimes against living creatures; he has served jail time; he has somehow been re-employed. His attempts to speak on behalf of animals have been half-hearted and disingenuous. None of this warrants a special award."
“No truly courageous or honorable person would say ‘Yes, I deserve an award.’ Yet, this is precisely what Mr. Vick has done, defending his nomination and claiming that he has suffered hardships. He has never suffered the hardships, or torture, that his poor dogs did at his hands. The honorable thing for Mr. Vick to do would be to not accept this award. This would actually show some courage and that he is serious about being on the road to atonement for his terrible actions against innocent lives.”

Hear, hear.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, the man keeps receiving props for his actions. He continues to be rewarded for the way he horrifically tortured those dogs. Every time I see his smug face smiling, it makes me cringe.
I went there and wrote them (CEO) a crappy note, I hope everyone does. courage, my ass!
ReplyDelete(no, I did not say that in the email!)
I am grateful that others are disturbed to say the least by this. I didn't actually believe this when I first heard of it and today it makes me want to cry that we value the ability to throw a football over the safety and happiness of living, feeling beings. I hope that at some time in the future Michael Vick truly feels the pain and remorse that should be overwhelming him now.
ReplyDeleteWell said!!! I just don't get the mindset that gives Vick a free pass......

ReplyDeleteThat's the email address for the contact person at the Ed Block Foundation. If you're so inclined, let him know how repellent it is to you that Vick was rewarded for his courage in accepting a big salary for throwing a football.

ReplyDeleteActually, go to that page if you want to send your reaction directly to the guy who probably made the decision: Sam Lamantia, Jr.
Donna, I hope you don't mind if I sent Mr. Lamantia a copy of the photo of the pup in this post (Uba? Frodo?). I did credit BadRap.
After going to the contact page, you'll note that the sponsors are listed. Letters to each sponsor is warranted - they will only change if their pocketbook is affected.

I'd like to give Vick a block award, as in a cement block to the cranium. This is just simply beyond preposterous, the man is a monster...PERIOD. Thank you for posting the email address, my next stop.
ReplyDeleteThat photo breaks my heart into pieces and as for Vick? He can suck it!
ReplyDeleteYes, the honorable thing for Vick to do would be to not accept the award, but when in his pathetic life has this piece of trash EVER done anything honorable?
ReplyDeleteThe victim mentality is what got him where he is today - good and bad. Poor Michael - everyone is against him. These NFL players have never had any consequences for any of their actions, Vick is no exception. Then everyone expects them to actually "get it" when they suddenly are forced to face those consequences. The fact that his teammates even voted him to this award shows you their mentality. He showed courage in overcoming obstacles - only people of honor and intelligence know that these obstacles were there because of Michael's own actions.
Every time I'm in a high school doing an anti-dog fighting presentation, Vick comes up. You know what the teens say to me? "You know he ain't sorry, right?" "Oh, he sorry. Sorry he got caught." And they laugh. How incredibly tragic that the KIDS get it but the grown men in the NFL don't. At least it gives me hope for the future that our children aren't too stupid to see him for what he really is.
that's disgusting. what's so courageous about being a heartless demented freak? i hope he chokes on his stupid award.
ReplyDeletethe people giving him the award are beyond dumb.
I feel sick every time I think about the award and about Vick.
ReplyDeleteI am appaled about this....Vick is not worthy of any award. I don't know if any of you are aware of his new show? I'm Southern Ca, and while channel surfing a week ago I came accross Michael Vick on TV, he has a show produced directed etc, etc. by him and about him and his family and how difficult his life has been and how horrible it was being in jail! Give me a break! How about how much these poor dogs suffered at his hands?
ReplyDeleteJust looking at him made my stomach turn and I had to change the channel......I believe it's on BET? Makes me sick!
Thank you BAD RAP for all you do...my three rescue doggies (one being a pit) thank you too!
It is very hard for my brain to even process this. How could this happen? How?? HOW????
ReplyDeleteVick is a coward, so his actions are not surprising. What's sad is the support he gets from such a large slice of the American population.
ReplyDelete??????
ReplyDelete!!!!!!!!!!!
Who the hell is Ed Block? That site is a joke. Raising awareness? Raising awareness for abused children by celebrating the lives of inspirational NFL players?
Did I miss something?
While they're sitting behind their "citizenship" curtain and smoking up their corporate partnership cigars, I'm on the street doing CPR on a poor kid who's just been shot. Where the hell were they for that poor kid? Abused / neglected children have a tendency towards crime so tell me again why we are praising a man of crime.
I understand that I must be the crazy person because I don't value football. But lets do the math folks. NFL vs any non-profit. . . . .
or. . .
NFL vs any other company in the world.
shoot- just toss me down the rabbit hole cause it can't get much more mad than this!
