The whole community has worked so tirelessly to make these stories happen and spread in the news. All the way down the line, from BR and others taking on the responsibility of getting the dogs and homing them, to the Yori's and their loving work -- to all of us getting the word and the message out there. A wonderful feeling for the holiday time.
Here's to the new year -- and more reaping what we sow!
Very true, Jon. Hector truly has become 'everybody's dog' ... Everybody who worked so hard to get push this story as far as it can go can take pride in knowing that the collective mind is working in favor of the dogs. And we did it all without a conference call - Not bad, huh? lol
Hector is gorgeous! I want to give him a big hug. Looks like he made a great impression on the kids. Are there outreach programs like this in Oakland? We need them. Volunteering at the shelter I have seen numerous animal cruelty cases involving adolescents. My pit does "outreach" in our neighborhood by flirting and wiggling her bottom for everyone she sees, especially kids. It would be great to go to the schools.
You should mark this Not Safe For Work. Watching that little girl tenderly touching Hector's head, then asking her unthinkable question, I just lost it. Her "poor dog" gives me hope that this generation will know compassion for all living creatures.
We're really proud up here in Minnesota of Hector and Clara and Roo (and Wallace, too, for that matter), and now I can say that I'm proud of our local media for running such great stories about him. I've written my thank you notes to the reporters and would encourage anyone else who was touched by these stories to do the same, in the spirit of Donna's previous post.
HI Donna, You don't need to post this comment but I don't know how else to get in touch... was able to pay a nice homage to Bad Rap on my blog via the most unplanned adoption ever...please see Tim and thank you again for all...Merry Christmas! http://uncruel.blogspot.com/2009/12/best-christmas-gift-of-all.html
Although it wouldn't be possible to name a favorite pibble pic of the year, I think this is one of the contenders. The People magazine pets website interviewed Clara and ran this beautiful picture of Hector surrounded by third graders. (Yes, I've already written to thank them!) http://www.peoplepets.com/news/heart-warming/former-michael-vick-pit-bull-enjoying-new-life-as-therapy-dog/1
Oh, and btw: Amber Anderson, the teacher who gave the presentation, is a long-time volunteer with dogs and adopted a pibble from A Rotta Love Plus last year! Us pibble people are everywhere!;>)
He looks fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteGO HECTOR! Show the world what this breed was really made for!
ReplyDeleteI love you Hector!
ReplyDeleteI swear, it's like he was sent down from heaven specifically to give pits wonderful PR.
I don't have audio here at work, so will check from home, but his scars seem to be fading (as are mine :-)). Good work, Hector!
