After the Jay Leno Show on Wednesday night, emails started pouring in from people begging us to slam Chris Rock for comments made regarding Michael Vick and his pit bulls. I admit I didn't watch it, altho we're told this is how it went:
Jay Leno: "It's amazing to me that you mistreat a dog and you lose your career and go to jail for two years."
Chris Rock: "What the hell did Michael Vick do, man? A dog, a pit bull ain't even a real dog. A pit bull, that's the white stuff. Dogs are white mans best friend - dogs have never been good to black people."
Yeah. Chris Rock is like so many comedians who shoot hard from the hip in hopes of offending somebody - anybody - into an uncomfortable laugh. If you're black - you get a free pass on caring for animals, so we're all going to give Michael Vick a big prime-time hug now because poor baby's been misunderstood. White people have clearly over-estimated his moral obligation to care about anything besides himself, and we need to just lay the fuck off. Ha, ha, Chris. I'm laughing til I split.
I'm glad I missed that show. Leno hit a new low, too.
I don't think anyone's stuck their neck out this far though, even to get a cheap laugh:
"Pit bulls ain't even real dogs."And his truth - which is obviously not our truth - strikes at the core of why they will continue to suffer in so many hands. Caring about dogs is seen as weak, and pit bulls fall somewhere much, much lower than other dogs on the how-much-to-care scale. (They're bred to be abused, remember?) That helps explain why to this date, Vick has yet to make mention of dogs, his dogs, (Has he even used the word "dog"?) even while speaking as an 'animal rights advocate' alongside HSUS top dog Wayne Pacelle in D.C.
Don't show that you're weak, man. Temper your words carefully so your boys don't laugh at you once the cameras are off.
"What the hell did Michael Vick do, man?" Well right now, he's showing us exactly how much work we have to do to bring those lowly pit bulls back into our circle of compassion in this country.
Thanks for helping with that, Rock. You're hilarious.
______
Now THIS is funny: Jimmy Kimmey on Vick
And if you like the Onion ...'Michael Vick Fails To Inspire Team With 'Great' Dogfighting Story' (Pssst. The Onion is a parody rag. Love it.)
Someone might want to remind Chris Rock that the first demonized dogs, according to the Pitbull Placebo, were the bloodhounds of Uncle Tom's cabin who chased after the runaway slaves. Or maybe that was a "white thing" too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a disgusting display of ignorance on the part of both Leno and Rock...It just makes me want to work harder to stop breed profiling!
ReplyDeleteKeep doing what you do, Bad Rap!
You truly are heroic in the eyes of so many!
Dianne - I think using dogs against slaves was definitely a "white thing." Fer sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I needed to get my blood boiling before I head out to our all day pit bull clinic here in New Orleans. We'll be vaccinating pits for $15 and signing any takers for free spay/neuter.
ReplyDeleteIt's been interesting trying to get the word out on this. Of course, word of mouth is always best. But we also tried, for the first time, to reach out to various community-based non-profits to see if they might help spread the word to their clients. Many bewildered administrators clearly could not fathom why we would want to help people who can't afford to go to a regular vet. Extrememly frustrating.
But, on the plus side, we've already had several people contact us for the free spay and neuter, including some dogs that have already had a litter or two before convincing their people that that was enough. Smart doggies!
I did see it, and I have lost allot of respect for Jay and the way he lobed the Vick topic up for rock. Rock just made himself look like an idiot.
ReplyDeleteMore opportunity
Please leave your comments at the show!!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thejaylenoshow.com/contact/
Awesome what you are doing Ken, kudos to you and all invloved!!! Chris Rock you are an arrogant a** and Jay Leno, well you just hit an all time low in my eyes, won't be tuning in to your show ever again!!!!!
DeleteOMG!! I had no idea!! I didnt see it that night, not that I really have been watching, his show kinda sucks, but I did just see Rock on Oprah talking about black women's hair...such a topic that Oprah did a WHOLE show on it! Wow, Chris needs to check out my blog with an interracial couple (imagine that!?) who love their Pit Bulls like their kids...oh and we live in Tennesee..WTF! I am so leaving some messages on Leno's site and I'm sure Chris Rock has one too!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Leno said that. A supposed friend to Cesar Milan and at one time (I don't know if he still is) a breeder of Champion Rottwielers
ReplyDeleteI sent my comment to the show in....in 6 parts because my message was so long!
ReplyDeleteKen; Thats incredible!! I had no idea about "Pit Bull day". What a great idea, and what a wonderful service you're offering. I'm just getting ready to move to the states (VA) from Ontario, where... well... we all know what happens to this sweet gentle breed in Ontario. I cannot wait to get the time/space and opportunity to offer something back to these incredible fur babies!
ReplyDeleteWhat a disgrace. And how sad for our favorite dogs that so many people watch "Leno" and idolize Rock.
ReplyDeleteI'll be succinct. Two douchebags.
ReplyDeletePeople's characters are revealed when they cater to receive the 'popular' vote. Leno & Rock both showed their true characters and lack of general respect for life with those comments.
ReplyDeleteWhen life, any life, is reduced in value we have lost something so precious. Worse yet, we teach the following generations that life is something to be wasted.
So, I continue to take a stand. I do not support people and/or organizations that reduce the value of life.
Life is precious. Particularly the life snoring and wuffling next to me as I type this.

Thanks, Jenn...you summed up my opinion perfectly!
ReplyDeleteWhat's that sound? Oh just my Chris Rock DVD's hitting the trash can, where they belong. They aren't even worth recycling.
I did see the Chris Rock/Oprah show...what a waste of time. Chris and Oprah spent time explaining to us dumbass white folks about black hair products.... screw them! I grew up with people of all colors and nationalities, and never felt as talked-down-to as I felt watching Oprah! I'm through with her too.
Isn't it Oprah who gives lip service to what a racist society we are because of the way she perceives the President is being mistreated? She could take a quick look in the mirror and see her own bigotry staring her in the face.
MV is a sick MF, plain and simple. Hollywood wants to go and give him a big kiss...go ahead. I won't be watching nor supporting any of it.
Chris Rock just showed his ignorance with his comments about pit bulls. Not one of the great humanitarian minds of our generation, is he?
Ironic that it is the dogs themselves who would forgive all of this bullshit, isn't it...they that actually suffer brutality at the hands of man. While I, an increasingly frustrated woman continues to rise to the baiting of the ignorant amongst us, fighting a war of words I may never win.
Dog help us all....
s&b/mty
Well, yeah, Donna using the dogs to chase slaves was a "white thing." But demonizing them, making them less or more than what they were, was done by everyone.
ReplyDeleteI just came from a great block party in Silver Spring where we (the shelter) took a gorgeous 1 yo male Am Staff, a pit puppie, a beagle mix, and a cattle dog mix. WHS was also there with an adult pit and a pit puppy. I don't believe that would have happened a couple years ago. We got lots of attention, and several people nominated our male pit as an Ambassadog. The shelter has created a handout specifically on PB and I gave out 4 or 5. Whoopee!
I wasn't aware compassion was a racial thing so I'm glad Chris Rock set that one straight /end sarcasm
ReplyDeleteAnd not that Jay Leno is out of the clear either. Saying savagely killing an animal meant to be a pet with your bare hands is "mistreating it" is a severe understatment. I feel for his cat knowing the mentality it has to live with from its owner.
As mentioned before, two giant douchebags!
ReplyDeleteWhy was that even a relevant statement?
Oh, by the way Jay, what happened to your Tonight Show gig? douche.
1) I'm white fold & YA pit bulls are for me .......HOW DAREEEEEEEE anyone question of even dare to use the race card in all this....another sorry ass excuse for someone who did a horrendous, nightmarish.....1 step short of serial killer thing....and yes killing animals-ANY animal is one step short of being a full blown serial killer.
ReplyDelete2) Jay is a washed up wanna be knock off of Johnny Carson.....some how he could NEVER fill Johnny's shoes & I sure WILL leave my comments @ the show......as for Chris Rock....my kid used to watch a show "everyone hates chris" -supposed to be about his life...UM YA now i know why they hated.....horrible word, even more horrible that they played the race card......
WOW...long run on sentence sorry, but ppl. like this really really annoy me!
I was indifferent to both men. Now I'm officially not a fan of either. Rock's stupid remarks seem to be an immature, simple attempt to push buttons, and he has succeeded. I'm sure he's managed to offend not just 'whites', but dog lovers of all ethnicities. I think he should just be ignored like a rude child. I'll be ignoring every career move he makes from now on.
ReplyDeleteafter reading this..it made me angery and sick to my stomach at the same time.i don't which statement pissed me off more .you abuse a dog and lose your career and go to jail for 2 years or pitbulls aren't even real .WTF!!!! i wouldn't let either one of these douchbags wipe my dogs ass
ReplyDeleteJay would only be concerned if someone was in trouble for keying cars .
ReplyDeleteOMG, I am soooooooooo glad I don't watch TV at all anymore. I'm too busy with my dogs. But Chris Rock has now hit my 'x' list and like a bad contractor, the news of him will spread faster than a too-tight pair of pants! This is like the faux-pas of Whoopi Goldberg (also on the 'x' list now) who said that dog-fighting was 'part of the black person's culture'...huh? Get a grip. I know plenty of wonderful black folks that love their pitbulls and lots of white, tattooed folks who love them as well....and me, the lil ole white lady who is 62! Go take a flyin' leap Chris Rock!
ReplyDeletePS Michael Vick refers to his former vick-tims, as 'the animals'. He can't even call them dogs, much less pitbulls.
I just spent my day working with Jett and Zena, 2 of the Missouri bust dogs. These are two of the most incredibly sweet dogs I've ever been around and it makes me sick that anyone could find any humor in the pain and suffering thar are inflicted on these dogs on a daily basis. I'm sick of the excuses that it is a cultural thing or it's the area that they live in, that's what people do when they live in.....WTF! It is an inhuman thing, torturing animals, peiod.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable...
ReplyDeleteFunny how the only people who turn the Vick issue into a race issue are racists. Who woulda thought.
ReplyDeletewell, I think just a script?
ReplyDeleteBut Jimmy Kimmel was great with his commentary on Vick's Nike deal:

What our momma always likes to point out is that people who hurt animals for fun or profit will not hesitate to hurt babies and the elderly. That critical connection is SO overlooked! Animal abuse doesn't stop with the animal. Looks like we gotta write a letter.
ReplyDeleteAlways thought Cris Rock was an idiot and now its just been confirmed. He's not only made an assumption based on ignorance but also has managed to insult another race and help to further stereo type his own. Shame on you Cris! And, Mr. Leno who should know better. Especially, because he's "ahem" white!
ReplyDeleteA little tidbit about assumptions: I help with Shot Fairs geared towards Pit Bull owner's. At one particular fair, there was an African American man (who at first glance you would assume, wasn't up to societies par) I was deeply humbled and impressed by this individual who walked miles to get to the Shot Fair, then stood in line for 2.5 hrs just so he could get his dog a free neuter voucher (his dog didn't need shots). After commenting to this man how impressed I was that he went to such length for his dog. His reply, "Man, I love this dog and I know he'd do it for me!"
On the flip side:
You have a recent dog fighting ring that was busted up and the alleged perps were "white", and one individual was a teacher of children.
Sorry Cris Rock, I don't buy into your " Dogs are white mans best friend - dogs have never been good to black people." way of thinking. I know better, I've seen many families of color (including my own) love their Pit Bulls as family members!
There are still a LOT of people who do not know the extent of the torture and savagery MV perpetrated. A client of mine (a responsible middle-aged female grandmother) said that MV had paid his dues and SHOULD be allowed to resume his career, and income. Afer I explained to her the extent of the crimes he commited, she put her opinion on hold. She had NO IDEA. I told her of the pool, and the cables, and the wall and the stolen pets and his laughter. As hard as it is to see the images, enough people still do not know what he really did. I have added Jay and chris to my shit list though
ReplyDeleteSo who the hell cares what Chris Rock says about anything? A so-called comedian who isn't even funny. Yeah, his opinion matters. Not.
ReplyDeleteThis disgusts me. I am white, but my children by virtue of their father are BLACK. My children have four rescued , adopted pit bulls in their home. They have an adopted Rottweiler in their home. They have 6 adopted cats in their home, and three adopted bunnies. We AS A FAMILY , work for a Va Dog Rescue that does a lot of Pit Bull Placements. My children VALUE all life, be it animal or human and they wouldn't , nor would I as a parent ALLOW them to subscribe to Chris Rocks CRAP and NONSENSE. RACE doesn't factor into HUMAN DECENCY, AND CARING, PERIOD. ALL humans no matter their color or creed , should be raised to respect every single live around them , be it a dog , cats, birds, or bugs, if it is alive and breathing , it has a right to its existence. It disturbs me that people like Rock are still spewing the nonsense that just because something is a lover thinking creature it doesn't deserve its life or to be treated with kindness and love. I shudder to think what people like Rock and those like him are PASSING ON TO THEIR CHILDREN.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!!!!! I wish there were more people like you and your husband on this earth that raises their children like you guys do and cares about all living things. :-)
DeleteChris Rock is SO not even a little bit funny. Period.
ReplyDeleteDisgusting, just like everything associated with Vick! Donna, on a side note and not to be bratty, but please ask Sara to write a description for Nelly on the Photo Contest so I can strong arm all the people who hit me up for their kid's fundraising who won't know her back story like BadRap regulars do! Please? I have already gotten her 40 votes!
ReplyDeleteWOW. I expect ignorant nonsense out of Chris Rock, but Jay Leno? Won't be watching him anytime soon. DISGUSTING!!!
ReplyDeletea sad example of extremely wealthy people who have no clue.
ReplyDeleteHuh. That's funny. I'm black AND I love my pit bull. In fact, my entire family loves my pit bull, and they're black too!
ReplyDeleteWhat are the chances?
So,"they ain't even dogs"? So,I guess you ain't even decent? I use to like Rock. Not anymore. What an un-educated piece of trash. I hope he doesn't own a dog or any other animal for that matter.
ReplyDeleteExtremely disappointing material on your show Mr. Leno...lowest of the low, for you and Chris Rock. I used to be a fan, not anymore. I'm off to locate the studio/agents/representatives telephone numbers for you both, and I won't quit til my voice has been heard. Write, call, email, everyone...one voice can make a difference...
ReplyDeleteBlack or white, gay or straight, rich or poor, since when is there supposed to be a difference between right and wrong? Apparently, both of these men, like Vick, feel that their fame makes their opinions, thoughts and beliefs more valuable.
ReplyDeleteThey are quite simply douchebags.
Natalie and Osa
I left my comment of disgust on the Jay Leno Show site - but if you hadn't seen the Jimmy Kimmel Live segment yet - it's funny. I saw it on Our Pack website under their blog - or YouTube.
ReplyDeleteand this is exactly why our poor pittie angels continue to be abused. oh if only we had the same forgiveness that our pitties do , but as i sit here at write this im contemplating of all the evil things to say back to chris and jay on their website.
ReplyDeleteignorance is so sad.
I went on NBC's website, and made a post for public viewing; telling Leno he had the responsibility has the HOST to educate himself before making such remarks and that we expect Chris Rock to be an idiot; and that he should look at the photo archives and read the witness statements so he wouldn't have to ASK what MV did. the post appeared after I made it, but it is GONE today! dont that just tell ya!?
ReplyDeleteNot to defend the guy, but when I read the "pit bulls aren't real dogs," comment, I thought he meant there's no such thing as a "pit bull." Not that the animals don't even exist...don't a lot of people (including me), believe the dogs aren't just "pit bulls" but specific breeds? Maybe I'm being naive??
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, I can't really explain (or even get) the rest of the conversation.
Even though what Chris Rock said was totally wrong, I think he nailed what is wrong with society. If you see a pit bull, many people think he is a monster. If black person is walking a pit bull, many people assume he is a drug dealer or a gang member. And if you are a professional football player, the society gives you another chance no matter what hedious things that person did.... Such a sad reality, but I still have a hope that organization such as BADRAP try to send REAL messages about pit bulls and we as good bully owners negate such comments.
ReplyDeleteI have no respect for either Leno or Rock after that display of complete idiocy. Rock, is a moron. Leno, wants ratings and to conform and not piss off his guests...again, moron. I have two pitbulls that I've rescued...one from the streets and one from living his days in a kennel. Both are wonderful dogs. I've owned other breeds but after owning pitbulls will never own another breed again. Thank you to all of those people who love this breed and do what they can to help.
ReplyDeleteDogtime commented too. Love this:
ReplyDeletehttp://dogtime.com/rock-leno-stanton-vick.html
Ok Donna, this really has nothing to do with this particular blog, as I have already stated that both men are total douche bags.
ReplyDeleteI just took a look at the calendar contest, and am overwhelmed to tears over all of the BEAUTIFUL goof balls on all 17 pages. Am I partial to Osa Mae? Of course! Dammit I wish I had enough money to give them all some love though, and add one more kiss to sweet Luna's face!
Natalie
P.S. Folks, if you haven't checked it out, look at all of these beauties. Five dollars is very little when you add up your Starbucks bill, your drive through bill or even your cigarette bill for the week. It's for a great cause, and man are those faces to die for!
i watched the full video of it online, i could feel the anger welling up in me as well as the disgust, i never liked leno anyway but used to kinda like rock. but not no mo that fo sho. what a disgusting display by them both.
ReplyDeleteshame on them. when will people get it, we love our dogs, we love our pitties, we will not accept such ignorance. not now not ever.
Jay Leno should publically apologize for his statement. Spend a day volunteering with Pit Bull Rescue & donate one of his jillion cars on Ebay with profits going to Pit Bull Rescue.
ReplyDeleteOnly way to redeem himself in the hearts of pet loving public.
Until then, I will no longer watch his show. EVER.
I found the link to your blog on the NBC message boards (before all the messages relating to this were taken down). I immediately posted an alert to an animal rights forum I frequent (including a link to your blog) and it has apparently caught on, so you should probably expect a massive increase in traffic... I've never had a post go viral before, but I'm so glad to be seeing the message everywhere now. Thank you for your blog. There are so many messages out there now condemning Leno and Rock for their ignorant, offensive, callous conversation that perhaps it will focus greater awareness to the cause. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteCan we not have the race bashing? I'm black and most black people I know care a great deal about their dogs.
ReplyDelete"If black person is walking a pit bull, many people assume he is a drug dealer or a gang member."
ReplyDeleteYes this. My brother really likes pits, but won't own one because of this crap
Your brother should get one regardless what people say, what matters is being a responsible pet owner and I'm sure he is responsible. :)
Deletechris rocks suckss!
ReplyDeletef* him
that's bs!
This display of ignorance is disgusting. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteI wrote to NBC to express my disgust about the Leno/Rock exchange, to HSUS about their reprehensible alliance with Vick, and to Nike (can't confirm if there is or is not a sponsorship deal (I threw away my Nike warmup) - NONE of them have responded.
ReplyDeleteVick is a bonafide sociopath, and his latest PR campaign makes me want to puke - what a narcassistic POS.
It's a topic you can get good dark humour from, but this just wasn't up to snuff.
ReplyDeleteRock should have picked up on his famous stand up "Black People vs Niggers", where "niggers" behave in idiotic, self destructive, ways that give black people a bad name. Clearly, Vick is one of the latter.
There is also some comic irony in a black man declaring a breed of dog is "not a real dog" in the way that his slave ancestors weren't "real humans" and abuse perpetrated on them could be justified.
None of this changes my opinion of Leno. I always saw him as nothing but a human weather-vane pointing whatever way the wind blew, in this case, Rock's material.
But I do love how these comments are fine for NBC to air, but they shut down and censor comments from people regarding the comments and act like nothing happened.
Just like everybody else is acting like Micheal Vick didn't do what he did.
bad owner... regardless of color makes for a bad dog.. no matter WHAT breed it is.
ReplyDeleteI want to say this is quick way for Leno and Chris Rock to lose fans, ratings, and standings with a lot of people who do matter!
ReplyDeleteSecond, it is not a Race issue about Michael Vick! This is a Animal Abuse Issue and it is with Michael Vick and all he employed plus all the Whites, Blacks, Mexican, EVERYONE, who Abuses a Dog, Pit Bull or any other Breed. Abuse is Abuse is doesn't matter the breed of the dog or the color of the human doing it, IT IS ABUSE! ALL who do it should All GO TO JAIL! Then maybe someone would pass it on NOT to do it! Don't fight the Animals that Love You and only want to please you. Don't Chain them, it is similar to being in jail. If you have to treat an animal like that then Don't get a animal - you do not deserve one!
The comment Pit Bulls are not a Real Dog! Maybe Chris Rock is Not a Real Man or a Real Comedian!
Stupid is as Stupid Does! This goes for Chris Rock, Jay Leno, Michael Vick and the rest of the world - We are as stupid as our actions!
All they wanted was to stir it up and they did just that!
Oh my God. I do not even know what to say to that.
ReplyDeleteExcept F*** Jay Leno and Chris Rock.
Forever. They will never be on my TVs again.
Does anyone have the full episode? I love my pitties and have resued many but I cannot believe this from either Jay or Chris. Maybe out of context these seem bad? Maybe in context they are bad! However, I would like to have ALL the info before I rush to judgement. Anyone?
ReplyDeleteIt's incredibly unfortunate to find out that Chris Rock feels this way about Pitties. Our blog's been featuring an adoptable dog every day for Adopt-A-Dog Month and a VAST majority of them are Pit-bulls or mixes. They are, to say the least, the sweetest most adorable, most caring pups that I've ever had the pleasure of writing about.
ReplyDeleteChris Rock should take a look at their profiles and maybe he'll see that animal cruelty is no joke. These dogs will melt his heart in a heartbeat.
You can see them here:
http://bit.ly/2ZRdqN - We even added links in the profiles to profiles from the perspective of the dog that highlights their individual personalities in hopes of showing just how endearing these pups are.
Please spread the word about these precious pups that need homes!
my comment to the show!
ReplyDeleteI volunteered at animal control in Indianapolis today. I spent 5 weary hours completely overwhelmed while just trying to simply take some dogs from their indoor kennels to outside kennels for some fresh air. There are investigation animals that are in there for months. Fighting dogs and severe cruelty victims sit in there and completely deteriorate while waiting for their owners go to trial. They are exposed to disease and some of them have been abused so badly that they can't even be taken outside. Collars have to be cut out of their necks and there is no shortage of scarred pit bulls. It's miserable. I cried as I received a kiss from a big black pit bull who was wagging his tail on the way to the euthanasia room. I am no right wing animal activist. I am just a normal person that grows to hate mankind just a little more each day. It's easy to go on day by day when you constantly spare yourself the sights of what really goes on in the world. C'mon Jay......Chris........that was just plain awful. Have a heart and I am sure that I can find a very nice pit bull that would be more than willing to be a black man's best friend. He would love to be anyone's friend................
I looked on Jay's Page of that specific episode and saw no comments from any of you. I guess he deleted them all, instead of acknowleging and apologizing for his gross comments. Did anyone get a reply from a rep? Did he mention an apology on his show? Never been that fond of the two anyway, but will be sure to trash talk them in the future.
ReplyDeleteWow,and I always loved Chris Rock as a comedian. I take offense to the comments he made simply because I am a proud owner of THREE pits from ages 8 weeks to 7 years. Yes, I am white but I never knew that my dogs were racist! They have never minded black friends coming around they are just as happy to play with them and lick them to death as they are with any other color. Chris Rock needs to understand that dogs don't see color, just people. It's sad that he'd want to add to the already bad rep that this breed has. He's more than welcome to meet any of mine and he'll see that color doesn't matter to them at all!
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time I had a signed autograph of this man on my fridge from over 10 years ago. Since then I honestly don't know how he's still on the air. He's not funny, he's not even likable. What he and NBC did to Conan was incredulous and now to hear this particular comment by him the other night is his official fall from grace. I never watch the show, I think it's boring. The only reason other people watch it is because of who is going to be on, it's certainly not him and his humor. He pretty much caters to the senior demographic which is why Conan didn't do well in the ratings. To say that what Vick did was to simply "mistreat" dogs is incredulous. Mistreating a dog is leaving it outside on a cold winter night or not feeding it for days at a time. What Vick did is what a sociopath does and he'll always be the most hated athlete for the rest of his life no matter what. I honestly don't understand how people support giving him a second chance when if it had been themselves, nobody would give them one. They'd be working at McDonald's the rest of their life. Period.
ReplyDeleteSo yeah Jay, I never watched you before but I'll definitely make sure not to contribute to your ratings now, if even by accident. Good day.
http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/what-michael-vick-taught-us/
ReplyDeleteWell, We’re All Michael Vick
The problem is that eating animals is, as a matter of moral analysis, no different from dog fighting.
We kill and eat more than 56 billion animals a year worldwide, not counting fish. No one doubts that using animals for food results in suffering, even under the best, most ‘humane’ circumstances, results in terrible suffering and death. So let’s apply the analysis that we all agreed was uncontroversial just a moment ago: have we got a good reason for this suffering and death? Is there anything that is plausibly considered as necessity involved?
The short answer is: no
Wed Aug 1 '12 I am very emotional about this subject... Ever since I DELIBERATELY BOUGHT & read the book "the lost dogs" last November. READ IT in 28 hours... (I already knew the book was about the case & HOW THE 51 DOGS WERE RESCUED, REHABILITATED, found new homes... How the treatment & thinking about pits was changed FOR THE POSITIVE. ((Somewhere there is a petition to end BSL...& in senate there is something developing, about being able to punish the spectators!!!! - would there still be dog fighting without the spectators???? )) I had absolutely no idea how ABSOLUTELY HEINOUSLY & WITH EXTREME CRUELTY)sick vick & his then SOON TO B FELLOW FELONS mistreated these poor animals... - I still say sick got of TOO easy!! - Now sick vick has a new clothing line,& the book.. "so he never has to answer those questions again!".. -BOYCOTT VICK!!! -there has been something in the news about him wanting an animal for his kids.... HE WILL NEVER BE FREE!!! someone will always be in his face!!! Now to learn some (not using his name comic? or that night show host,)are defending sick vick, turns my stomach....- what if someone damaged one of the hosts precious collectable vehicles.... Vancouver Canada
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure where this blog post was linked, but with the sudden submission of comments it seems to be a hot topic again (this blog post was written almost three years ago, people).
ReplyDeleteThe comparison to MV's sins and eating meat is tired. It was exasperating to see 'militant vegetarians' (for lack of a better term) attach their agenda to this topic three years ago and it still is today.
Huge improvements have been in the animal welfare world with regards to the treatment of pit bulls since MV's former dogs were rescued, thanks to the lessons that the dogs brought to the forefront. That progress did not involve berating other causes. Maybe farm animal activists could use the lessons from this case to help their own work? We promise not to tsk-tsk or belittle those efforts -- Who knows, we may even be inspired to participate.
I have never thought Chris Rock or Jay Leno had any talent, so have never watched anything Rock has been in and never watch Leno show. Just wondering if Leno and Rock realize that on some scale they have committed career suicide? Immediately for Rock, losing a big movie deal which lets face it, you are not as popular as you might have been at one time. Leno, lets see how your ratings do now and how your friends start looking at you as if you have leprosy. You both deserve whatever Karma dishes out for your comments and ignorance about a loyal loving breed the pit bull, and even mentioning the name Mike the Dick.
ReplyDelete
